I passed my Assistant Ride Leader exam at Bigland Hall in Cumbria on Thursday, after three training days with them. I felt welcome from the moment I arrived and found the training to be relevant and very practical. We covered so much and Sheila went out of her way to ensure we got what we needed. The horses are well cared for and respected, and the tack is pristine. All the staff were friendly and helpful without exception. I even enjoyed the exam day, thanks to Bob Weatherley and Michelle putting us at ease, and the staff having ensured everything was in place.
I would highly recommend Bigland Hall to anyone.

Hi,
I wanted to drop you a line to say how impressed both my girlfriend and I were when we visited you over the bank holiday weekend, we booked a 1 hour trek and were given well behaved and trained horses who installed confidence in us both, out guide Laura? made the ride enjoyable and was a great communicator. I will recommend you to all my friends and hope to visit again. PS if red is ever for sale let me know!! |

Hi Dawn and everybody at Bigland Hall,
I just wanted to say thank you so much for making my little riding holiday such an enjoyable experience.
Everybody from instructors to lead riders and grooms to office staff was incredibly nice and welcoming, and it was great to be taken care of in that personal friendly way you all have.
My classical lessons with Sheelagh finally gave me a glimpse of what I have been looking for in riding for a long time, how to be a sympathetic, subtle rider who is with the horse rather than a lump on its back. Despite the very very basic riding skills I came with, Sheelagh took me serious and taught me more in 3 lessons than I could ever have hoped for. She has set me off in the right direction and I am hoping to be able to continue along this line. I may just move to the Lake District for a while. The thought of never being able to ride the wonderful Flash again is just to hard to bear.
The hacks were equally fantastic, the views amazing and every horse special, it could not have been a better week for a horse lover.

Its good to ride nice horses that are well cared for and responsive and to be taken out by leaders that are friendly and interested in making the experience as good as possible. Excellent Day Out - Just a brief note to say how much we enjoyed our day with you. You matched us up with the right horses, they did just what we asked of them, the rides were in spectacular scenery and the weather was just perfect. We will certainly book again.

Saturday 9th May-2 hour hack with Jade
We came to Bigland on the recommendation of a friend and were very impressed.
The horses were impeccably turned out and obviously very well cared for and much loved!
We were all made to feel very welcome and all agreed it was a great hack out in stunning location and couldnt believe were the time went.
We will be back very soon for a full day ride.
P.S The White Hart Pub was just the ticket, we all had steak and ale pie and chips, yum!

Whilst on a Camping Holiday in Flookburgh myself and my two daughters aged 13 & 8 years visited Bigland Hall Equestrian Centre for a 1 hour ride and it was absolutely fantastic. Staff were very pleasant and the views and the horses were equally amazing. I would definately recommend this Centre to families and also the prices were really reasonable - Thank You |

Bigland has it all. If you are are an OAP like me - go on a gentle hack riding a bomb proof with willing helpers who do not mind that it takes 3 pairs of hands to get you on and off!!! Or just watch the wonderful classical lessons by Sheila-it is never too late to learn.
I have spent many happy hours, enthralled by Sheila,s knowledge, listening and watching from the Gallery. Then, if you want to be really serious, you can be. My adult son is keen to ride perfectly - walk, trot-canter as it should be on an obedient, relaxed, happy horse. Bigland help with that and appreciate what he wants to do.Whatever else you want to do -eventing, jumping, taxing or gentle hacking, they will gear your riding to your level and ambitions. Happy Hacking in beautiful scenery-out to Chapel Island (tides willing) through woods, up and down. All tailored to you - usually accompanied by Mike who makes sure you come back with a big grin on your face. If a competitive nature is you, test yourself at the special events.
Try Le Trec super, super fun. But do not go against the Pony Club lot, you will lose. Maybe not though it you enter the Fancy Dress - the Mother Christmas and Mother Elf had to be seen to be believed. OH! I have not metioned the horses- as if they matter- from Shetland to fell pony, to Hunter to dressage champs to school master (who know that he had an old has-been on his back and never put a hoof wrong) to the poser stallion. So, go to Bigland-watch,ride,enjoy take your horse, visit the local beauty spots, you will be back for more.
Remember the world is best viewed through the ears of a horse. As Sir Winston Churchill said-No hour of life is lost that is spent in the saddle. |

Having lessons with Sheelagh has been a "real" breakthrough in advancing our training and I have seen a great improvement over the last few months. I would recommend anybody who wants to advance their skills and that of their horse to book a lesson with Bigland. |
